Higher National Diploma students can get scholarship support in Nigeria, but many HND students miss opportunities because scholarship advertisements often use broad terms such as “tertiary students” or “undergraduates.”
One opportunity specifically created for HND students in 2026 is the Rauf Sobulo Academic Foundation HND Educational Support Grant.
The programme is particularly useful because applicants do not have to compete simply on the basis of having the highest CGPA. The Foundation says its selection process is primarily based on financial need, although applicants must still be in good academic standing.
RASAF HND Educational Support Grant 2026
The Rauf Sobulo Academic Foundation, RASAF, provides financial assistance to students who may struggle to pay tuition and other necessary academic expenses.
Its HND Educational Support Grant is specifically for students currently studying for a Higher National Diploma at an accredited public polytechnic in Nigeria.
The Foundation says the purpose of the programme is to help financially disadvantaged students remain in school and complete their education.
Who Can Apply for the RASAF HND Grant?
According to the Foundation’s current scholarship requirements, applicants must:
- Be currently enrolled in a Higher National Diploma programme
- Be studying at an accredited public polytechnic in Nigeria
- Demonstrate genuine financial need
- Need assistance with tuition or other academic expenses
- Be in good academic standing
- Show genuine commitment to completing their studies
RASAF states clearly that its selection process is need-based rather than a competition for the highest GPA.
This does not mean academic performance is ignored.
Applicants must still show that they are active students making reasonable academic progress.
How Much Is the RASAF HND Educational Support Grant?
RASAF has not published a fixed amount for the HND Educational Support Grant on its current scholarship page.
Students should therefore be careful with websites or social media posts claiming that every beneficiary will receive a particular amount unless that figure is confirmed directly by the Foundation.
The level of assistance may depend on the applicant’s financial need, the academic expenses involved and available scholarship funding.
What Does the RASAF HND Grant Cover?
RASAF identifies three major areas that its educational support can cover.
Tuition Fees
The Foundation may provide financial assistance to clear or subsidize official tuition fees for the student’s current semester or academic session.
The aim is to prevent financial difficulties from stopping eligible students from attending classes or examinations.
Essential School Supplies
Depending on the scholarship support approved and available funding, assistance may also cover necessary educational materials such as:
- Required textbooks
- Notebooks
- Basic stationery
- Other essential learning materials
This is particularly useful for students whose educational costs extend beyond tuition.
Compulsory Academic Expenses
RASAF may also support compulsory school-related charges that students need to remain in good academic standing.
Examples listed by the Foundation include:
- Departmental dues
- Faculty levies
- Laboratory fees
- Practical fees
- Other compulsory institution-regulated academic charges
These expenses must be related to the student’s academic programme.
RASAF HND Grant Requirements
Before applying, an HND student should be able to establish three important things.
First, you must actually be enrolled in an HND programme.
Second, your institution must be an accredited public polytechnic in Nigeria.
Third, you should be able to demonstrate that you need financial assistance to continue your education.
RASAF does not state that applicants must have a particular minimum CGPA on its current scholarship page. Instead, it requires applicants to remain in good academic standing.
Applicants should therefore avoid assuming that a specific CGPA such as 3.0, 3.5 or 4.0 is compulsory unless the current application form states otherwise.
Documents HND Students Should Prepare
The Foundation’s public scholarship page does not provide a complete document checklist for the HND grant.
However, applicants should have documents that can prove their academic status and support the information entered in their application.
Useful documents to prepare include:
- HND admission letter
- Current school ID card
- ND statement of result or ND certificate
- Current HND academic result, where available
- Evidence of current school fees
- Official school fee schedule
- Recent passport photograph
- Valid phone number
- Active email address
- Evidence relating to compulsory departmental, laboratory or practical expenses where applicable
Applicants may also be asked for information that helps the Foundation understand their financial situation.
Do not submit false documents or exaggerate your circumstances. The purpose of a need-based scholarship is to identify students who genuinely require financial assistance.
How to Apply for the RASAF HND Educational Support Grant
Applications are made online.
RASAF lists the HND Educational Support Grant on its official scholarship page and provides a dedicated Apply Now link leading to its application form.
The basic application process is:
- Visit the official Rauf Sobulo Academic Foundation scholarship page. : https://rasaf.org.ng/scholarship-programs/
- Locate the HND Educational Support Grant.
- Read the eligibility requirements carefully.
- Click Apply Now under the HND grant.
- Complete the official online application form.
- Provide accurate academic and personal information.
- Explain your financial situation where requested.
- Submit any supporting information requested on the form.
- Review your responses before submitting.
Students should use the HND application route rather than applying through one of RASAF’s university scholarship forms.
The Foundation specifically asks applicants to select the scholarship programme that matches their current academic level.
What Should You Write About Your Financial Need?
Since RASAF focuses strongly on financial need, this part of the application should be taken seriously.
Do not simply write:
“I need the scholarship because I don’t have money.”
Explain your circumstances clearly.
For example, you can explain:
- Your current HND programme and level
- The academic expenses you are struggling to meet
- Whether outstanding fees are affecting your studies
- Important laboratory, practical or departmental expenses you cannot currently afford
- Your family or financial circumstances where relevant
- How receiving the grant would help you continue or complete your HND programme
Keep the explanation truthful and direct.
You do not need an exaggerated story. What matters is helping the Foundation understand why financial assistance is necessary.
Does RASAF Require a Particular CGPA?
The Foundation does not currently publish a specific minimum CGPA for the HND Educational Support Grant.
Instead, applicants are expected to maintain good academic standing and demonstrate a sincere commitment to completing their education.
This makes the grant different from scholarships where students are automatically excluded unless they have a First Class or Distinction.
However, weak academic performance could still affect an application if it suggests that the applicant is not making satisfactory progress.
Is the RASAF HND Grant Merit-Based?
Not primarily.
RASAF specifically says its selection process is strictly need-based and is intended for good students who require financial assistance to remain in school.
It is not simply a competition to identify the applicant with the highest GPA.
Students with a solid academic record but serious financial difficulties therefore have a reason to consider applying even if they do not have the highest CGPA in their class.
Can HND 1 Students Apply?
The published eligibility requirement says applicants must currently be enrolled in an HND programme at an accredited public polytechnic.
The Foundation’s public scholarship page does not state that the opportunity is restricted only to HND 2 students.
An eligible HND 1 student can therefore check the current application form and apply if all requirements are met.
Can HND 2 and Final-Year Students Apply?
The public requirements also do not exclude HND 2 or final-year students.
The important condition is that the applicant must currently be enrolled in an eligible HND programme.
Final-year students should make sure they are still registered students when submitting the application.
Can ND Students Apply?
Not for this particular grant.
The RASAF HND Educational Support Grant specifically targets students currently enrolled in Higher National Diploma programmes.
ND students should look for scholarship programmes that specifically accept National Diploma students or students in Nigerian polytechnics generally.
Can Private Polytechnic Students Apply?
The current HND Educational Support Grant description says applicants must be studying at an accredited public polytechnic in Nigeria.
Students attending private polytechnics should therefore not assume that they qualify.
If your institution’s status is unclear, contact RASAF before submitting an application.
Can State Polytechnic Students Apply?
The Foundation uses the term public polytechnic rather than restricting the HND grant only to Federal Polytechnics.
This means students should check whether their institution meets the Foundation’s definition of an accredited public polytechnic and confirm their eligibility through the current application form.
Is the RASAF HND Grant Only for Particular Courses?
The general HND Educational Support Grant page does not restrict applicants to a particular course of study.
However, RASAF also operates a separate Professor Rauf Sobulo Agricultural Grant.
That specialised grant is available to eligible HND or four-year university students studying courses such as:
- Agriculture
- Soil Science
- Agronomy
- Related agricultural disciplines
Students studying agricultural courses should therefore check both opportunities and determine which application category applies to them.
RASAF HND Scholarship Deadline 2026
RASAF currently lists the HND Educational Support Grant among its available scholarship programmes and provides an application link.
However, the Foundation’s public scholarship page does not currently state a specific closing date for the HND grant.
Applicants should therefore avoid relying on unofficial deadlines circulated online.
If the application form is accepting responses and you meet the requirements, it is better to apply early.
Students can also contact RASAF directly if they need confirmation about the application period.
RASAF Contact Details
Applicants who need clarification can contact the Rauf Sobulo Academic Foundation through its official channels.
Email: info@rasaf.org.ng
Phone: 0809 548 0361
Alternative phone: 0802 234 4500
The Foundation lists these contact details on its official website.
Does RASAF Charge an Application Fee?
The Foundation’s current scholarship information does not state that students must pay an application fee to submit the HND grant form.
Applicants should therefore be cautious if someone on WhatsApp, Telegram or another platform asks for money to “help secure” the scholarship.
Use the application link provided on the official RASAF website.
If anyone requests payment and you are unsure whether it is legitimate, contact the Foundation directly before paying anything.
Does RASAF Pay the Money Directly to Students?
The Foundation states that its tuition support provides direct financial assistance to help clear or subsidize official school fees.
However, the public HND scholarship information does not clearly specify whether every approved payment is transferred directly to the student, paid to the institution or handled differently depending on the expense.
Applicants should therefore wait for official payment instructions from RASAF instead of relying on information from third parties.
Are HND Students Considered Undergraduates for Scholarships?
It depends on the scholarship provider.
Some organizations use the word “undergraduate” broadly to describe students completing their first tertiary qualification.
Others use it specifically for bachelor’s degree students in universities.
That is why HND students should always read the eligibility requirements instead of applying simply because an opportunity is described as an undergraduate scholarship.
Look for phrases such as:
- HND students
- Polytechnic students
- Students in accredited tertiary institutions
- University and polytechnic students
- ND and HND students
If a scholarship specifically says applicants must attend a Nigerian university, a polytechnic student should not assume that HND students are included.
Other RASAF Opportunity for HND Agriculture Students
HND students studying agriculture also have another option within the same Foundation.
The Professor Rauf Sobulo Agricultural Grant provides targeted financial assistance to students pursuing HND or four-year university programmes in Agriculture, Soil Science, Agronomy and related agricultural fields.
The grant is intended to assist with tuition and school supplies for students who demonstrate commitment to agriculture but require financial assistance to complete their education.
An HND student studying an agricultural course should check this programme in addition to the general HND Educational Support Grant.
How HND Students Can Improve Their Scholarship Applications
A need-based scholarship requires a slightly different approach from a purely academic scholarship.
Start by proving that you are an eligible student.
Make sure your admission letter, student identification and academic records clearly show your HND status.
Next, explain your financial situation clearly.
Where possible, mention the actual academic expenses you need assistance with rather than making a general request for money.
For example, if you have an outstanding tuition balance, practical fee or laboratory charge, explain it.
Finally, provide only accurate information.
A straightforward application supported by genuine documents is more useful than an exaggerated story that cannot be verified.
Why HND Students Should Search Beyond Popular Scholarships
Many of Nigeria’s most widely advertised scholarships are restricted to students studying for bachelor’s degrees at universities.
HND students therefore need to search more specifically.
Useful search terms include:
- HND scholarships in Nigeria
- HND educational support
- HND bursary Nigeria
- HND grant Nigeria
- Polytechnic scholarships
- Scholarships for HND 1 students
- Scholarships for HND 2 students
- Engineering scholarships for HND students
- Agriculture scholarships for HND students
Students should also check state scholarship boards, professional associations, community foundations, corporate foundations and organizations connected to their field of study.
The RASAF HND Educational Support Grant is a good example of why HND students should look beyond general undergraduate scholarship lists. It specifically identifies HND students in public polytechnics as an eligible group and focuses on helping students who genuinely need financial assistance to continue their education.
